Resistance to Great Powers

I am delighted to be the recipient of a UKRI Economic and Social Research Council New Investigators’ Grant (£297,000) to lead a team examining resistance to great powers in the Global South, focussing on the response to China’s growing presence. In this project we use cross-national quantitative evidence and qualitative case studies around the globe to investigate the causes, processes, and implications of resistance to China’s presence and influence in the Global South - and how it compares to resistance to other external powers such as the United States.

We will update this page as our research continues. Below are websites tracking some of our work in the project

The programme’s website is here: https://www.thebritishacademy.ac.uk/programmes/global-disorder/. The paper will be added here upon publication, but the below link gives the data put together for this paper. Please only use with proper citation: Gruffydd-Jones, J.J.
